From the President’s Desk...

Gusmano,Jerry-Med_Res.jpgSpring is in the air! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to get out of the house and do some things.

One thing we can do together is meet up in Novi at the famed Suburban Collection Showplace on April 22 for our Annual Symposium!! Early bird pricing is about to end, so if you’re thinking of coming don’t delay. Click here to register and take advantage of the lower pricing while it lasts.

Keep an eye out for a NEW section on our website called Professional Development, coming your way in April 2022. It’s currently under construction, but it will be your new source for training, PDUs, events, and certification tips and tricks. We’re excited to bring this to our membership as a source of real value for our profession. I’d also like to add, if you find a good article or have an idea for content, please submit it to Asha Subramanian, our VP of Professional Development. Read on.

Volunteer Spotlight

Gil Rollins

GilRollinsvolspotlight.jpegGilbert Rollins (Gil) graduated from General Motors Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Let’s talk about old-school genius. Immediately after graduation, Gilbert went into the new field of data processing, when computers were powered with vacuum tubes. He was involved in the design, development, and implementation of GM’s first internal numerical control system, INCA. Gil knew nothing about Project Management. While at EDS, Gil joined PMI and GL on November 4, 1996, and volunteered with the Membership team where he helped with the first all-member survey of GL, a skillset he brought from GM and EDS. PM Musings

The Principled Project Manager - Negotiating Tactics
by Dr. Bill Moylan, PMP

My PM Musings articles from September and then December 2021 continued my series of articles addressing one of the most important skills of the savvy Project Manager -- the ability to negotiate the best outcome that satisfies the needs of all stakeholders for Win-Win-Win. As noted in the September article, reaching consensus requires compromises between the parties to meet or exceed the necessary project goals while building and maintaining important relationships among the project stakeholders. In December, negotiation strategies for the Principled Project Manager noted the importance of the first five minutes of the negotiation, the need to stay objective and impersonal, using “I” statements to keep the focus on how you feel, and focus on interests. Read the complete article.
